As-Salaam Alaikum. Peace be upon you. This Arabic phrase can make a world of difference and can make all the difference in the world. It's time that we move beyond Islamophobia and replace stereotype with reality, hate with love, fear with understanding. With this video, we are trying to launch a movement, which is rooted in breaking the barriers of discrimination by association with that most enduring ideal of all: peace. It's a message that a student of Arabic quickly learns and one that is a common greeting by Muslims throughout the world. So let's reach out, shake hands, and start a dialogue. Let's do so by making the effort to understand, by making the effort to learn and use a beautiful phrase in a beautiful language that is the language of Islam. As-Salaam Alaikum. Peace be upon you.
We need your help. Just make a quick video saying the following: "Hi. My name is .... I'm from (city/state/) and am a citizen of (country). As-Salaam Alaikum." That's it. And be creative. Add anything that you think would help further this cause. The idea is to get a whole collection of these videos and make a compilation that we can then share the world-over. Let's do this.
